Dental Bonding

Not all cosmetic procedures are intended to simply improve the appearance of a person’s smile.

In fact, many cosmetic treatments serve to not only brighten a smile, but also to protect and strengthen the patient’s natural teeth.

Such is the case with dental bonding. This remarkable process not only repairs teeth with minor damage – it leaves behind an absolutely gorgeous smile!

Best of all, the procedure can usually be completed by Dr. Jaros in a single trip to our Austin, TX, office.

The Dental Bonding Process

If you have overall good oral health, but have teeth with minor dental issues – such as tiny cracks, eroded enamel, misshaped teeth, or teeth with wide gaps in between – Dr. Jaros may recommend dental bonding to resolve those issues.

Other patients may benefit from bonding as well, such as those that are cavity-prone or simply want a more beautiful smile while providing an added measure of protection for their natural teeth at the same time.

The process is simple and fast. Dr. Jaros begins by gently roughing the surface of the teeth to be bonded, after which she applies the bonding material (a composite resin), molds the teeth into the desired shape, and hardens the bonding material with a specially designed light.

Not only does bonding work wonders to repair teeth with minor damage; the composite resin is also remarkably strong and durable, typically lasting from 4 to 7 years before it needs to be replaced.

The end result is a beautiful, perfect-looking smile!

Doing Your Part

As is always the case with any dental procedure, patients need to do their part afterward to ensure that the dental work remains pristine for as long as possible.

In the case of dental bonding, you’ll need to avoid certain foods that are too hard or sticky, since they may damage the bonding material.

And bonded teeth can be stained much the same as your natural tooth surface, so you should avoid consuming too many foods or beverages that stain teeth.
