What is a Dental Implant?
An implant is, essentially, a metal rod with an artificial tooth affixed to the top. The dental implant procedure begins by inserting the metal rod into the jawbone of the patient. Over the period of a few months, the metal fuses to the bone tissue. After that, Dr. Jaros affixes a porcelain crown to the top of the implant. Because the rod is fused to the jawbone, it’s very much like getting a new tooth root. And the porcelain crown that sits on top of the implant is created to match the shade of the patient’s natural teeth. So the result is a permanent replacement for one or more missing teeth. An added benefit is the durability of a dental implant – often, it can last for the lifetime of the patient!
Other Uses for Implants
Implants are an excellent means of replacing one or more teeth for many patients, but they can also act as an anchor for dental appliances such as dentures and bridges. Ask Dr. Jaros for more information about the various uses for dental implants.
